Located on Howell Mountain is the estate vineyard that produces Selah, a small, secluded site surrounded by tall pines and patches of forest. As with many Howell Mountain vineyards that sit above Napa Valley’s fog line, the site’s high altitude translates into cooler daytime temperatures and warmer evening temperatures than are experienced on the valley floor, and the extended growing season usually begins and ends a few weeks later.
Thomas Rivers Brown, Winemaker "The hue of the wine is a completely opaque deep-purple hue with a dark garnet halo. Vivid aromas suggest kirsch, cinnamon stick, black licorice, crushed rock and spearmint. The concentrated fruit impact on the front of the palate is packed with notes of macerated blackberry, raspberry seed and pomegranate reduction. The mid-palate has more of the structural quality noted by blueberry paste, cedar, and lavender. The long tantalizing finish is marked by pretty floral notes that suggest lavender, rose oil and lilac. With the finely integrated tannins and generous mouth-watering acidity, this impressive mountain Cabernet Sauvignon will develop gracefully in the cellar for years to come."

There are 300 cases of the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Selah, a hidden gem in this vintage. Gorgeous notes of blue fruits, herbes de Provence, candied violets, and spice all emerge from the glass, and it's full-bodied, pure, and beautifully balanced. I'd be thrilled to drink bottles any time over the coming 15 years or more.

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a heady, savory wine with tons of Howell Mountain character. Dark red stone fruit, grilled herb, chocolate, plum and juniper berry all run through this inky, dense Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2017 is racy and unapologetically flamboyant, but it is also impeccably balanced, especially within the context of the year. It's an impressive showing for a young estate with just a few vintages under their belt.
