Beautiful dark red presentation with brilliant purple reflections. On the nose, Fonbadet 2018 expresses intense aromas of cassis, black cherries interwoven with more floral notes such as violet but also finely roasted of toast and spices. The palate is elegant and delicate with a velvety texture. All supported by a freshness giving length to the whole.Blend: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot and Malbec

Wine Advocate 91 pts "This 20-hectare vineyard in Saint-Lambert (currently 17.33 hectares are in production) is planted to a density of 10,000 vines per hectare with an average age in 2018 of 60 years. The wine is aging in 50% new barrels and 50% second-year barrels. Deep purple-black colored, the 2018 Fonbadet reveals intense notions of freshly crushed blackcurrants, kirsch, and blackberry coulis with touches of truffles, crushed rocks, black pepper, and unsmoked cigars. Medium-bodied and laden with ripe, juicy fruit, it has a soft, plush texture and just enough freshness, finishing earthy. Drink Date: 2018-2024."...Lisa Perrotti-Brown

The 2018 Fonbadet is superb. Classically elegant and refined, the 2018 graces the palate with exquisite finesse right out of the gate. Red berry, floral, blood orange and minty flavors convey freshness as the 2018 opens in the glass. Bright acids perk up the nuanced, persistent finish. Readers won't find too many 2018s that are this delicate, sensual and flat-out charming.

I loved the 2018 Château Fonbadet, a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend (there’s 25% Merlot) that’s aging in 50% new French oak. Classic Pauillac notes of cassis, lead pencil, graphite, cold fireplace, and ample earthy minerality all flow to a medium to full-bodied, elegant wine that stays tight, focused, and structured on the palate. It’s going to need 4-5 years of bottle age, but it’s a beauty.

Pretty, bright dark fruit with blueberry and currant aromas and flavors. Medium body and firm, silky tannins.

This really is a successful Fonbadet full of rich dark liquorice that feels extremely typical of the appellation. The tannins are present but not rustic with a sense of vibrancy and uplift through the finish alongside a quickening feeling of slate minerality. A yield of 55hl/ha suggests there was such natural ripeness in this vintage that low yields were not necessary to get this intensity of flavour. No need to wait too long to get going on this.
